"Roaming Yunlin, Drawing Taiwan": A Comic Exhibition [Winner of 2 Gold MUSE Creative Awards]
Retelling Yunlin's story through comics.

The "Roaming Yunlin, Drawing Taiwan" exhibition, sponsored by the Fong Tay Cultural & Educational Foundation and commissioned by the Cultural and Tourism Department of Yunlin County Government, was a collaborative effort between NFU's Office of Sustainability and local creative startup "Cultural Thermos." The exhibition won two gold awards at the 2025 MUSE Creative Awards in the U.S., adding another international honor to local cultural curation.

The exhibition uses "comics" as a cultural medium, connecting the historical lineage of a century of Taiwanese comics—from the budding four-panel strips in Japanese-era newspapers and youthful memories of rental book stands, to the golden age of comic magazines and today's global Webtoon trend. From Zhuge Silang, Oolong Court, and The Soul of the Underworld to Grandma's Grocery Store, each panel holds memories and emotions from different generations.

The curation specifically focuses on two comic artists from Yunlin:
  • Teacher Ruan Guang-min, a Golden Comic Award winner from Douliu, who uses works like Grandma's Grocery Store, The Inspector, and Donghua Chun Barbershop to portray the warmth of everyday life and stories of the land.
  • Teacher Chen Hsiao-ya, who hails from Huwei, transforms the streets, alleys, and memories of military dependents' villages into moving pictures through Four Blue Skies in Early Summer and Black Seed Greens in the Wind.
Their drawings are more than just comics; they are "the soul of Yunlin." From the street corners of Douliu to the alleys of Huwei, those familiar scenes and human stories are reawakened through the strokes of their pens.
"Roaming Yunlin, Drawing Taiwan" invites you to enter the exhibition, turn the storyboard pages of Yunlin together, and feel the cultural charm born from the intertwining of comics and the land.
