NFU OSSR Establishment Purpose and Mission
In March 2022, President Chang Hsin-liang instructed the establishment of a preparatory office for Sustainability and Social Responsibility. On August 1, 2022, the Office was officially founded as a first-level dedicated unit, the first of its kind in Taiwan. Its mission is to advance the university's SDGs development and implement University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives. To concretely realize the 17 SDGs, focusing on the three dimensions of "Society," "Economy," and "Environment," the Office established three subordinate units: the University Social Responsibility Practice Center (USR Center), the Local Community Care Learning Section, and the Sustainability Development Section.

Strategically Planning Social Practice
- Determine social practice development axes.
- Identify and inventory local characteristics and needs.
- Plan initiatives aligned with the UN SDGs.

Teaching and Research
- Integrate professional fields into SDGs for innovative curricula: Promote inter-college or inter-departmental sustainable integration programs.
- Launch innovative solicitations for social practice teams: Accept applications from faculty and student teams for social practice courses.
- Empower faculty social practice communities: Regularly organize fairs, seminars, or observation activities.

Administrative Integration
- Optimize incentive mechanisms: This includes evaluations for faculty promotions, USR teaching excellence awards, and USR administrative staff awards.
- Advocate for campus sustainability: Coordinate and advocate for the development of campus sustainability and social responsibility initiatives.
- Promote sustainability topics: Equip administrative and academic units to effectively implement the SDGs.

Specific Goals
- External—Become a think tank for Yunlin, connect with SDGs-focused organizations, and foster co-creation with local communities, industries, and international partners.
- Internal—Deepen the engagement of USR faculty and student teams and create horizontal connections for SDGs-related topics across campus.

Detailed Description: Organizational Structure Chart of the Office of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility
Convener: President Chang Hsin-Liang
The Convener oversees two committees:
- External Advisory Committee
- Internal Steering Committee
The Office of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility is positioned at the same organizational level as the Convener and the two committees above, in a parallel horizontal relationship.
The Office of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility oversees three divisions:
- University Social Responsibility (USR) Practice Center
- Sustainable Development Division
- Local Care and Learning Division
These three divisions correspond to four operational tasks, as follows:
- The "USR Practice Center" and the "Sustainable Development Division" jointly correspond to: Implementation of University Social Responsibility Practice Projects, Implementation of University Social Responsibility under the Higher Education Sprout Project, and Promotion of SDGs and Green Campus Initiatives
- The "Local Care and Learning Division" corresponds to: Promotion of Local Care and Learning

Implementation Strategy

- Continuously promoting campus sustainable development & USR implementation teams based on the "Four-Liveness" concept.
- Innovation in interdisciplinary teaching & curriculum integration: Promote sustainable integration programs within or across colleges & departments.
- Innovative solicitations for social practice: Accept applications for social practice courses from both faculty & student teams.
- Annual social practice workshops, fairs, seminars, or observation activities: Organized annually.
- Optimize the incentive mechanism for university social practice.
- Coordinate & advocate for the development of campus sustainability & social responsibility.
- External – Act as a think tank for Yunlin's initiatives & connect with external SDGs-focused organizations.
- Internal – Foster more USR faculty & student teams, & strengthen inter-departmental connections for SDGs-related issues on campus.
